The three-year marriage of Tamil cinema’s top director Selvaraghavan and his actress wife Sonia Aggarwal is finally coming to an end on March 12. Remember that the couple had filed for a divorce in August last year at the family court in Egmore in Chennai and applied for a “divorce by mutual consent”.
According to sources close to the couple they had been drifting apart during the last one year.
Close friends tried to intervene and save the marriage, but it was too late as the relationship was going downhill. For the last few months, they have been living separately.
Sonia was initially reluctant for a divorce, and tried for patch up. However the couple realized that the marriage was heading nowhere and decided to part. The buzz is that Selva paid a huge alimony to Sonia and now they will be happily independent people.
When asked about it, Selvaraghavan kept mum, “It is too personal and I would like to keep quiet on this issue and I believe silence is golden.”
Selva first met Sonia in early 2002, when he signed her up for his path breaking Kadhal Konden, opposite his brother Dhanush. It was her debut film in Tamil and subsequently she went on to become a star and was paired with major stars in Kollywood. Selva and Sonia were living together for nearly four years, and it was on Sonia’s insistence that the relationship was legalised.
